GOBO light projection
Art Institute of Chicago

WE ARE STILL HERE takes the form of a GOBO ("goes before optics") light projection installed in the Textile galleries, as part of the exhibition design for On Loss and Absence: Textiles of Mourning and Survival, (September 6th, 2025–March 15, 2026). It was installed in the gallery featuring textile fragments and textile conservation. The text celebrates resilience, resistance, and survival of textile cultures and makers.

I created the text to accompany the exhibition design, conceived and led by Samantha Grassi, executive director of Exhibition Design at the Art Institute of Chicago. Typography and font design by Christine Zavesky, Creative Director of Visual Design at the Art Institute of Chicago.

With thanks to Isaac Facio, Nneka Kai, and Anne Wilson
