Solo exhibition @ Sector 2337's Project Space
The works in the exhibition connect historical and contemporary demands for economic, social, and racial justice. "Union" is a term that connects labor organizing to other kinds of collective organizing, belonging, collectivity and community-building. At once angry and hopeful, this iteration of New Demands? emphasizes mutual support and solidarity at a time of increased polarization, intolerance, xenophobia, and exclusion. Works in the exhibition feature text inspired by campaigns waged by the International Ladies Garment Workers' Union between the 1934 and 1982; an April 1967 speech by the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; the demands of the Black Lives Matter movement, and protests against the unilateral revocation of collective bargaining rights for public sector workers in Wisconsin in 2011-2012.
